The DSF's Co-founder, Lady Olga Maitland
Welcome to The Defence and Security Forum

The Defence and Security Forum was founded by Lady Olga Maitland in 1983. It was originally a campaigning organisation known as Families for Defence launched to challenge the anti-nuclear protest movements such as CND. Families for Defence’s remit was to promote the NATO case for multilateral nuclear disarmament. In the course of doing so the purpose was to focus on the importance of a proper provision for the defence of the United Kingdom.

Your views: The Geo-political Impact of COVID-19 Booking forms

During the current coronavirus crisis, it would  be helpful to have an analysis of the impact it is having geo-politically. One example would  be, will the gifts of aid from Russia and China change global relationships?

Also, the DSF would be interested in receiving your thoughts on:

  • How should NATO respond?
  • Should we take a lead from President Trump? After all, the US has been a cornerstone of Western security.
  • How do we adapt  to an ever increasing global role by China?
  • Will the virus impact on regional conflicts, and if so how?
  • Will this change the dynamics in the Middle East?
  • Could this hasten the end of the conflict in Syria?
  • Could the relationship between Israel and its neighbour's change?
  • Will relations change with Iran?  Should they still be under sanctions?
The economic impact is profound. This cannot be assessed in isolation from security. The drop in oil price may be welcome to consumers but will affect the stability of a number of hydrocarbon dependent countries.
Lady Olga Maitland says,’These are only opening suggestions for points of view.  We would welcome comments and analysis. And if permitted, we would publish them.’
