Sir
Desmond de Silva QC was commissioned to lead an investigation of
international lawyers into the evidence of ‘systemic killing’ of 11,000
detainees by Bashar Al Assad’s security forces. These came to light
through a cache of evidence smuggled out of the country. Most of the
victims were emaciated, bloodstained and bore signs of torture.
The results of the analysis and subsequent report were presented to the
Geneva 11 peace conference, the UN, governments and human rights
groups.
Sir Desmond will talk through his findings and report back on the outcome of the Report at the Geneva Peace Conference.
