The DSF's Co-founder, Lady Olga Maitland Welcome to The Defence and Security Forum

The Defence and Security Forum was founded by Lady Olga Maitland in 1983. It was originally a campaigning organisation known as Families for Defence launched to challenge the anti-nuclear protest movements such as CND. Families for Defence’s remit was to promote the NATO case for multilateral nuclear disarmament. In the course of doing so the purpose was to focus on the importance of a proper provision for the defence of the United Kingdom.

ALGERIA TODAY – Post-Islamist attack on In Amenas gas plant in January.
 

Algeria hit the headlines when 37 people died in the attack on the In Amenas site – 5 of whom were from BP.

Balance the shocking events with the fact that Algeria is the richest and most stable country in the whole of North Africa. British relations have never been closer or more productive for British business.

An assessment will be made on both security implications with fragile neighbours – and alongside that the opportunities for British businesses to flourish.

Prince Turki Bin Faisal al Saud His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Faisal al Saud: ‘Understanding the Middle East Today’

In his Address to Defence and Security Forum he will examine the challenges facing the Middle East today.

Prince Turki is warmly remembered for his years as Ambassador for the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia from 2003 until the outbreak of the US Invasion of Iraq. He was highly respected by diplomats here.
Previously he had been Director General of the General Intelligence Directorate (GID), the Kingdom’s main foreign intelligence service.  After service as Ambassador in the UK, he was appointed as Ambassador to the White House for two years.
